The Farm

The Highland Homestead Ranch grows a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. Most of the vegetables we grow are used and consumed by the homestead either fresh or preserved for use during winter months. Since we produce much more than we could ever consume, the excess is sold and or traded with our local community.

All the herbs and flower we grow have both culinary and medicinal application. We grow them primarily to be used as teas or transformed into tinctures, salves and soaps. We only produce hand produce little batches at the time. The excess herbs are packaged and sold to enhance your culinary experience.

As for fruits, we grow mainly berries because my wife loves all types of berry fruits, seriously! We also have an apple orchard which we use primarily to produce apple cider vinegar. New this year, we will start growing lemon and olive trees in our new greenhouse, the fruits will be used primarily in our medicinal products.

Our Hens

We produce pasture raised eggs most of the year, well the months where we are not covered in 48 inches of snow that is. Even in the dead of winter our hens have a fully enclosed outdoors area to graze, take dust baths and peck on bugs. We are not in the egg production business, but we love our hens, and keep on adding more every year, so we make the excess eggs available to our local community.

As of 2025, we will start hatching our own eggs and later this year will be adding a rooster or two to the coop , just to give our hens some options… Ha ha ha!

The Ranch

The Highland Homestead Ranch will be raising a variety of hooved animals. Some will be raised for the meat, others will be our working companions. Unfortunately, due to the fire that consumed our passive greenhouse and our workshop in March 2024,  our plans for the ranch were moved to 2025-2026. See “The Fire” page if you want to help us rebuild!

The Highland Homestead Ranch will be raising sheep for their meat and wool. We will also raise highland cattle for their world renown lean yet well marbled meat. We are working hard this year to transform a few acres into pastures to accommodate bison as of 2025. Lastly, what is a ranch without horses, the Highland Homestead Ranch will be home to half a dozen horses.
